Simplicity: The Mariners Chapel: Gloucester Docks

One of the unexpected jewels of my trip to Gloucester was the simple little Mariners Chapel I found after visiting the Cathedral. Set in contrast to a Cathedrals magnificence, here was a beautifully whitewashed church by the water of the docks, adorned with stained glass and filled with a peace and serenity that was deeply comforting. This is a building where those of a simple and strong faith have attended before they or their loved ones sailed or after they returned to give thanks for their safe delivery from treacherous seas and unpredictable storms, those who know the wrath of Nature. In many ways, I felt really at home in this small homely chapel and could happily have stayed for much longer.
